seminars jointly with local administrations, and cooperating
in "Ozone Layer Protection" training held by JICA. Moreover,
JICOP is conducting additional activities in collaboration
with other domestic

and Industry, JICOP has held Conference on measures for ozone
layer protection in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam,
China, and other developing countries, with the participation
of Japan, the United States, and the host nation. |

On behalf of the Japan International
Cooperation Agency (JICA), JICOP has received trainees from
developing nations once each year since 1990 for a course of

The department of international
cooperation promotes assistance for developing countries.
Activities include support for developing countries financed
by the Japan Fund for Global Environment, planning of the the
seminar on policy implementation and alternative technologies
concerning ozone layer protection organized by Japan
International Cooperation Agency, and participation of
Japanese bilateral cooperation under Montreal Protocol Fund as
well. Those activities are fully supported by the member
associations of JICOP.

In September 1999 the seminar on alternative
technologies and energy conservation in household refrigerator
was held at Nanjing. There were many good question and
answers. |

The seminar on alternative cleaning
technologies was held at Xian in December 2000. The experts
from Japan explained alternative technologies after the
Chinese government officials explained the policy in cleaning
sector(Materials in Japanese, in Chinese). |

In March 2002 the seminar on alternative
technologies and energy conservation in household refrigerator
was held at Bangkok. The talk focused the latest alternative
technologies and participants actively discussed the
technologies (Materials in English, in
Siamese).

On October 23, 2003
in Putrajaya city, JICOP with the assistance of
Department of Environment (DOE), Malaysia organized the
Seminar on Phase-out of HCFC and Improvement of Energy
Efficiency in Air conditioning. This seminar got support
from DOE, Malaysia, financial support of Japan Fund for
Global Environment, and technical support of Japan
Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry
Association. At the beginning, Mr. Ishii explained
Japanese experience and recent trend for recycling of
air conditioning equipment. After the keynote address,
Ms. Rosnani Ibarahim, Director General of DoE made
opening address. Five experts from Japan made their
talks on the technologies in the technical session. Dr.
Vithoontien from World Bank had opportunity to explain
recent trends of the CFCs Phaseout. At the end of the
seminar, Mr. Ismail Ithnin ,Principal Assistance
Director of DoE focused the current situation of CFCs
Phaseout and Multilateral Funds. There were many good
questions and the seminar ended with great
success.

| The six weeks seminar has
been annually held since 1990. Every year approximately
20 persons participate from 41 developing countries
including regions. The seminar includes not only the
policy measures, but also alternative technologies
including site tours. At the end of the seminar
certificate is given to the participant as shown
right. |

| Since 2000 the department
has been working for development of a strategy for
refrigeration servicing sector in China as a UNEP
consultant. In January 2002, Chinese members of the
project took study tour and got the information on
Specific Home Appliance Recycling Act and made site
tours on the CFC recovering machine company, CFC
distillation plant and household appliance recycling
site. The follow-up and review were made at the end of
